Grain of Rice Project
Founded to aid marginalized communities in Kenyan slums, Grain of Rice Project’s mission is to empower Kenyans with education and training initiatives.
On Grain of Rice Project
At the heart of Grain of Rice Project's mission is the belief that "while one person is like a single grain of rice, together we can fill a cup and cause it to overflow." Through their artisan program and primary school, Grain of Rice Academy, Grain of Rice Project is empowering communities in Kenya with education and training opportunities.
Members of the artisan team learn sewing, beading, and basketry skills needed to create beautiful goods in a fair trade environment. Dignified wages enable artisans to improve their standard of living and better support their families. The Grain of Rice Academy is a primary school in Nanyuki, Kenya educating over 160 students in need from preschool to Grade 9. The school provides students with a high quality, hands-on education and places an emphasis on literacy skills, following a cross-curricular approach to learning.
